Dorian Marcel began music with the piano at the Rainier III academy in Monaco then turned to the double bass in Libero's class Lanzilotta. He continued his studies at the CRR de Nice in Elisabeth's class Vanthomme, where he discovered tango and jazz and participated in numerous chamber music groups in atypical formations.
Attracted by the orchestra, he was admitted in 2006 to the French Youth Orchestra under the direction of Jean-Claude Casadesus, where he was invited back two years later, as solo double bass under the direction of Denis Russell Davies.
In September 2007, Dorian entered Bernard's class Cazauran at the CNSMD in Lyon.
Benefiting from a grant from the Princess Grace of Monaco Foundation, he participated in 2008 in the prestigious Aspen Festival with Eugene Levinson, professor at the Juliard Music School.
As part of his studies at the CNSMD in Lyon, he carried out in 2010, an Erasmus exchange in the prestigious Royal Academy from London with Duncan McTier, who invited him the following year to come and study in his class at the Musik Hochschule der Künste from Zürich.
Following an audition, he was able to follow a one-year training course (praktikum) within the Basel Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Denis Russell Davies.
He multiplies the artistic activities around group practice, and appears in training varied ranging from chamber music (ZHdK Strings) in the symphony orchestra (Basel Sinfonieorchester, Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra) through the tango and jazz. He is particularly involved in the Quinteto Respiro, being the regular bassist of the ensemble since its very beginnings in 2009. He notably followed specific trainings with Gustavo Beytelmann, and the double bass player Wifried Holzenkamp, in order to improve particularly in the techniques of double bass tango.
